かなり仰々しい名前の教会。
「聖ミカエルの山」と関係があるのかどうかは不明。

特に目新しいところがあるわけではないが、時間が余ったので時間つぶしの為にブラブラしてみた。
中にも入れると思うが、勇気が無くて入れなかった。

A heaven for wildlife：野生動物の楽園

St Michael’s churchyard is an important sanctuary for wild plants; a 2008 survey by Cumbria Wildlife Trust identified nearly 100 species.
聖マイケルの境内は野生植物の重要な聖域であり、カンブリアワイルドライフトラストによる2008年の調査では、約100種が確認されています。

It is also a place where insects, birds and small mammals can find food and shelter.
また、昆虫や鳥、小型哺乳類などが餌や隠れ場所を見つけることができる場所でもあります。

The churchyard is bounded by a mix of hedge and low dry stone walls.
境内は、生け垣と低い乾いた石の壁で囲まれています。

Trees are generally found along the boundaries, e.g. beech, ash, hawthorn, sycamore, holly.
ブナ、トネリコ、サンザシ、スズカケノキ、ヒイラギなどの樹木が境界線に沿って多く見られます。

A variety of lichens can be seen on the gravestones.
墓石には様々な地衣類が見られます。

Some areas of grass are left longer before they are cut to allow wild flowers and grasses to blossom and set seed.
野の花や草が花を咲かせたり、種をまいたりするために、草を長く残してから刈るところもあります。

The churchyard is managed this way so that it is sympathetic to wildlife but at the same time respects the fact that this is a burial ground for the church.
境内は、野生動物に配慮しつつ、教会の埋葬地であることを尊重して、このように管理されています。
