Honeybees communicate by vibrating messages to the colony against the honeycomb they live on. One of these distinctive vibrations includes the famous ‘waggle dance’.
ミツバチは、自分たちが住んでいるハニカムに対してコロニーへのメッセージを振動させることによってコミュニケーションをとります。これらの特徴的な振動のひとつに、有名な「ワグルダンス」があります。

Honeybee (Apis spp.) vibrations were recorded from a beehive at Kew using an accelerometer. This technique for recording a colony’s conversations was pioneered by Martin Bencsik of Nottingham Trent University.
ミツバチの振動を、加速度計を使ってキューにあるミツバチの巣から記録しました。コロニーの会話を記録するこの技術は、ノッティンガム・トレント大学のマーティン・ベンシクによって開拓されました。

This installation represents the different levels of vibrations recorded from within Kew’s honeybee hive. The pulsing of nearly 1,000 LED lights and the swell of orchestral music mirror the changing intensity of the recorded vibrations. In this way, The Hive allows us to immerse ourselves in the fluctuating levels of communication from a busy honeybee colony. The orchestral soundscape is in the key of C-the key that honeybees buzz in.
